UNC Named NCAA Regional Host

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - No. 14 North Carolina was awarded an at-large bid to the NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Championships and will host a regional Friday, May 9 and Sunday, May 10 at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center. UNC, who at 17-8 is the 15th seed overall, will face South Carolina State (13-3) in Friday's first round. The other match will pit No. 17 Arkansas (15-9) against No. 46 Wake Forest (8-13). The winning teams will meet in the NCAA second round on Saturday at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center. The winner of that match would advance to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen in Tulsa, Okla. The Tar Heels advanced to the Sweet 16 last year with a win over Duke in Chapel Hill. The UNC men's tennis team will also host a regional the same weekend with the Tar Heels as the No. 12 seed. First round matches are Saturday, followed by a Sunday regional final. The other teams in the men's regional are Arizona State, Duke and South Carolina State.
