STARKVILLE, Miss. - Sophomore Danielle Spaulding was named a Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Second Team All-America on Wednesday as selected by the nation's collegiate coaches. Spaulding becomes the first Tar Heel since Crystal Cox in 2006 to earn All-America honors and becomes just the fourth player in school history to reach second team or higher status. Spaulding led the Tar Heels in the circle with a 16-3 record and a 0.97 ERA on the year, while also hitting .325 at the plate with a team-high 11 home runs.

Spaulding's selection makes her the eighth All-America in Carolina softball history joining Theresa Buscemi (1992, third team), Christine Kubin (1996, first team), Brandy Arthur (1998, first team), Kelly Ramsey (2000, third team), Tiffany Tolleson (2002, second team; 2003, third team), Jaclyn Holden (2003, third team) and Crystal Cox (2006, third team).

The Fontana, Calif. native was pegged as the second team utility/pitcher thanks to her 16-3 record in the circle and 0.97 ERA in the circle and her team-high 11 home runs at the plate.
