Tar Heels Start Season No. 3 In NSCAA Poll

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Coach Anson Dorrance's women's soccer team, looking for its 20th national championship in history, begins the 2008 season No. 3 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas National Rankings. The Division I pre-season poll was released by the NSCAA August 12. Defending NCAA champion USC, which last year defeated Florida State 2-0 in the NCAA championship game, enters the season ranked No. 1 while UCLA is No. 2. A year ago, the Bruins were tripped up by the Women of Troy 2-1 in the NCAA semifinals.

North Carolina is one of six ACC teams in the preseason Top 25.
