Four Tar Heels Named To U.S. National Team Pool

Aug. 15, 2008

by U.S. Lacrosse

Four University of North Carolina women's lacrosse players have earned spots in the U.S. Women's National Team Player Pool, U.S. Lacrosse announced earlier this month. Returning players Kristen Carr, Amber Falcone and Jenn Russell were named to the pool, as was graduated 2008 senior Erica LaGrow.

The announcement came after three days of tryouts concluded at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.

The player pool will be divided into Elite and Developmental teams following US Lacrosse's Stars and Stripes weekend Oct. 10-13. All players are eligible to represent Team USA at the 2009 IFWLA World Cup in Prague, Czech Republic, with the final 18-player roster expected to be announced following the US Lacrosse Champions Challenge in January 2009.

The roster includes eight players affiliated with four-time defending NCAA Division I champion Northwestern, the most of any school.

Falcone and LaGrow both represented the USA at the Prague Cup in late June, playing eight games in the Czech Republic.

While Carr, Falcone, LaGrow and Russell have earned spots in the U.S. Player Pool, Tar Heel senior Katie Brooks has earned a spot on the Canadian National Team, putting her in the running to compete for Canada in the World Championships in 2009.
