Tar Heel Golf School (Boys): The Tar Heel Golf School is designed to be a fun, structured environment for young golfers of all abilities. We will maintain a very low player to instructor ratio (4 or 5: 1) to ensure a quality learning experience for all. The focus of the school will be on the total golf "package", from the long game to the short game, putting, and the all-important mental side of golf. Our curriculum will include instruction on course management techniques, drills to reinforce solid fundamentals, and we will stress the fact that golf is fun and can be enjoyed for life. Our mission is to create a dynamic, fun learning environment that will help young players to reach their full potential and give them a competitive edge in the game of golf.
Head Coach - School Director John Inman: John Inman returned to his alma mater to take over the reigns of the UNC golf program that he represented as a player from 1980-1984. As a player, he was victorious in his first start as a Tar Heel and continued his winning ways all the way to the end of his senior year. In 1984 he won the NCAA individual championship in record setting fashion by shooting 17 under par and breaking the mark set 13 years earlier by two-time Masters champion Ben Crenshaw (a record that was just broken in 2000). That year John was selected to the World Amateur team and received the Fred Haskins award for college player of the year. Along with teammate Davis Love, the Tar Heel teams of the early ' 80 ' s were very successful, winning 3 out of 4 ACC team titles ('81, '83, '84) while John took the individual title in 1982. Following in his brother Joe's footsteps, Coach Inman qualified for the PGA tour in 1987 and ended his ten-year career with two victories to his credit. Now in his 11th season as the Tar Heel Head Coach, John Inman is doing something he really loves. "I am very excited to be back in Chapel Hill working with the great young players who attend the University of North Carolina." In his brief tenure, Inman has coached eight All-Americas named to the team on 15 occasions and his Tar Heels have already captured 13 team titles and 13 individual titles. They finished ninth at the NCAA Championship in 2003 and 10th in 1999 and 2000. He led the Tar Heels to the ACC Championship in 2006, Carolina's 11th ACC championship and its first since 1996. Inman became the first person to win the ACC title as a player and a coach - he won the ACC Individual Championship as a player in 1982. The Tar Heel Golf School is a product of his love of the game, and his desire to share his knowledge with the young players of tomorrow. Notable Quotables:
