Career Best Times: 1:50.82 in the 200-yard individual medley; 3:51.60 in the 400-yard individual medley (3rd in school history); 51.40 in the 100-yard butterfly; 1:49.76 in the 200-yard butterfly; 51.98 in the 100-yard backstroke; 1:53.64 in the 200-yard backstroke; 59.29 in the 100-yard breaststroke; 2:05.37 in the 200-yard breaststroke.
General: One of Carolina's most versatile swimmers...a returning lettermen whose best events are the two IMs...he can also be counted on to swim fast times in the fly, back and breast as well...was ahighly-recruited prospect from the Washington, D.C. area coming out of high school.
Long Course Highlights: Competed in the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials in the 200-meter and 400-meter individual medley events.
2007-08 (Freshman): Set a career best time in the 400-yard IM with a time of 3:51.60 at the ACC Championships, finishing third in the event...his time in the 400-yard IM put him into third place in school history in the event...was a consolation finalist in the 200 IM at the met...earned first-team All-ACC honors ... named to the 2008 All-ACC Academic Men's Swimming and Diving Team, one of eight Tar Heels selected.
Prep: Graduated on August 13, 2007 from Lake Braddock High School in Burke, Va. ...a four-year swimming letterman in high school...swam for seven years with the Curl-Burke Swim Club, specializing in the IM, fly and breast...his high school team finished in second place three years in a row at the state championship meet...individually, he won the 200 IM at the state meet two years in a row and set a state high school record in the process...was the team captain...a high school All-America...made NCSA all-star team.
Personal: Full name is Andrew Jeffrey Brake...the son of Jeff and Marlene Brake...was born September 20, 1988 at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland...has one sister, Meghan, 23.
