![]() Swimming & Diving - 7/5/2008 UNC's Kinderwater Makes Olympic Trials Final In 1500 MetersJoe Kinderwater, a rising sophomore All-America swimmer for the University of North Carolina from Lancaster, Pa., became the Tar Heels' first 2008 U.S. Swimming Olympic Trials finalist as he went over nine seconds faster than his previous personal best to claim the last spot in the field for the 1500-meter freestyle championship heat Sunday night. His Tar Heel teammate Chip Peterson also had a great swim, taking 12th place in the event. (more)Track - 7/5/2008 US Olympic Trials Day Nine: Johnson Falls Short In Bid For Fourth Olympic AppearanceThree-time Olympian and 1996 gold medalist Allen Johnson's bid for a fourth consecutive Olympic berth fell short Saturday afternoon in Eugene, Ore. as he was forced to drop out of the 110 meter hurdles qualifying round. Johnson pulled up after just a few hurdles in the opening round of qualifying and will miss the Olympics for just the first time in the last 12 years. Adam Shunk placed sixth in the high jump as he cleared 7-4 1/4 falling an inch and a half shy of the Olympic A standard. The trials will wrap up on Sunday as Erin Donohue looks to be the fourth Tar Heel to earn a trip to Beijing as she competes in the 1500 meter final. (more) Baseball - 6/30/2008 Fox Named National Coach Of The YearNorth Carolina head coach Mike Fox, who guided the Tar Heels to a third straight trip to the College World Series in 2008, was named national coach of the year Monday by Baseball America. A two-time ABCA Atlantic Region Coach of the Year, Fox is the first UNC baseball coach to claim national coaching honors and the first Atlantic Coast Conference skipper to be honored by Baseball America.
